Asterisk Supper Club

Fun times at Asterisk Supper Club

The Dads are doing what we can to find restaurants that check all the boxes… Fine dining, diner, themed, you name it, we want to find it.

Our most recent visit to Asterisk Supper Club checked off quite a few, and left us excited to go back to try more of the funky-fun menu items that are featured at this super cool spot.

The space is gorgeous and welcoming and warm. One wall is lined with books and the menu is nestled inside of these pieces of literature. It’s a fun way to present a menu and start a conversation!

Maybe Just Another Drink More

To begin the evening, Mike started with the Fortune Teller cocktail. This mega-flavorful little gem is a mix of Noble Cut Dark Cherry Whiskey, Laphroaig, Port, lemon, and vanilla. Yes. To answer your question, it did sound weird.

And it tasted weird in a very good way. For Mike, it was a one and done, but definitely ready to have it again another night. The flavor complexities kept him guessing, trying to figure out exactly what he was tasting in each sip… and it changed with every taste. Cherry? Yep. Pencil shavings? Yep, that too. Oooh! Port! There you are! The cocktail was a delicious experience!

Craig being Craig, he started with the Uptown Smoked Old Fashioned. It is comprised of Middle West Dark Rye, Angostura bitters, molasses bitters, and chocolate bitters. The menagerie of flavors might have drowned out the smokiness of the smoke, but it was a fun take on a old fashioned Old Fashioned.

A Delightful Dining Experience

Lately, Craig has been on a kimchi kick. Mike is not a kimchi fan, really, because all-too-often, the spiciness is muted by the other flavors. And he doesn’t love the other flavors. To appease Craig’s theme, though, they started with the Lemongrass and Chicken potstickers. These delightful little bites are served with their house kimchi and chili ginger sauce.

Absolutely remarkable. Give either one of us 3 orders of this and we would happily make it a meal. The flavors all had their own place in the dish and they were all loud enough to be heard. It is well-rounded. It is beautifully served. It is one that The Dads will order every time we go back to Asterisk. 10/10, 5 stars, 4 thumbs up. BAM!

We continued to peruse the menu, deciding between options like The Asterisk Burger, which is served on a Brioche bun, with house made dijonnaise, and white cheddar cheese. We also thought about trying out the meatloaf. Every meatloaf dish, in our opinions, should be served with scalloped potatoes, and theirs is. Since we couldn't decide, though, we landed on ordering another cocktail while we browsed our options.

ANOTHER little sipper couldn't hurt, right?

For The Second Round

This time, Craig had The Glass Shark. Watershed Distillery Bourbon, apple cider, milk punch style with a red wine float. It was odd, yet oddly amazing. Bourbon bite with cider sweetness with wine flavor warmth that was a flavor fiesta. The fun part was playing with the shark fin floating ice cube. It kinda looked like blood in the water when you bounced it into the glass!

Mike decided on the Coffee Old Fashioned which is comprised of Watershed Distillery Bourbon, demerara, and Angostura bitters… Fun twist, though, the ingredients are then sent through a coffee pour-over. The coffee portion was unexpectedly light and the drink was very good. It’s one of those warm-the-soul kind of experiences.

Perfectly Plated Pasta Pleases Palates Profoundly!

Okay, so pasta wasn’t the only thing we ate, but that alliteration was too good to skip out on using.

But – you probably won’t be shocked to know that Mike ordered pasta. Ravioli, to be precise, with the crunchy chicken protein add-on. This dish is packed with baby spinach, garlic, cream cheese, mozzarella, and ricotta, all tossed in a creamy romesco sauce. Topped with fresh parmesan and a hint of mint, it’s a perfect blend of rich, smoky, and refreshing flavors.

The pistachios on top added a nuttiness that really rounded this out nicely.

Once again, Clean Plate Club winner Mike went home without leftovers.

Craig tore into the Ratatouille and went off the menu requesting it to be topped with broiled salmon. "Grits" was the part of the description that initially stood out because it's not standard for traditional Ratatouille. But the hunch that it wouldn't be generic powdery white grits was correct. These were golden grits with a larger texture to them.

With the house-made tomato sauce and the goat cheese, the very thinly-sliced green & yellow zucchini plus eggplant all baked together in the iron crock was something to be ordered again and again, even if it was impossible to finish the full portion the first time around.

Yes, leftovers came home and were perfect for lunch the next day!

Butter Cake

Cashew & Oats Cream Cheese Cake

For The Love Of Dessert

We ordered two separate desserts this time, with the thought that we would share with one another.

Share. That’s funny.

Craig tried to get a bite of Mike’s Butter Cake, which is made up of berries, lemon curd, raspberry sauce, and vanilla ice cream. The good news is, Craig didn’t lose a finger, but it was close.

Butter and Cake are two of Mike’s favorite words, only to be outdone by ice cream. This was right up our alley.

Craig ordered the Cashew and Oat Cream Cheese Cake. This is a seasonal specialty right now, but it was so good we had to tell you about it. There was fear that it would be mucky, but the oats were done just right and gave a crunch to the overall richness of its not-overly sweet perfection.

A Must Return

A Fun And Casual Spot

Asterisk Supper Club is fun. It's casual. It's clean. But don't let this review lead you to believe it is anything less than finer dining. It is easy to tell that the ingredients are all intentional and fresh. The plating and presentation is meticulous. The service we received was impeccable.

Asterisk Supper Club redefines finer dining with reasonable prices, a staff that seems happy to be there, and a beautiful, yet comfortable environment.

We were both quite pleased with our experience and can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu! We hope you give them a shot and hope that you, too, love your time there!
