A Culinary Love affair

Tasting Lupo on Arlington

Come along for the ride as we discover the joys that are offered at Lupo on Arlington!

A Joy-Filled Journey of Tapas and Cocktails

When it comes to describing our time at Lupo on Arlington, it’s hard to know where to begin. To put it simply: our experience was extraordinary from the moment we stepped through the door.
From the outset, Nas, our server, greeted us with a warmth that felt like a hug in human form. Within seconds, we knew we were in for something special—and Nas didn’t disappoint.

The Cocktails: A Masterclass in Mixology

We started the evening with cocktails, as any self-respecting diner would.
Craig’s Fall Old Fashioned was a sensory delight. Built on a foundation of Basil Hayden bourbon, this drink brought together Turkish tobacco bitters, apple cider, black tea, plum, black currant, and a whisper of cinnamon. Rich, layered, and perfectly balanced—it set the tone for the night.

Mike’s choice, The Sevillian, was another standout. Templeton Rye, Carpano Antica, toasted almond bitters, Hellfire bitters, and burnt orange oil created a drink so good he was tempted to order seconds. (It’s a tough job reviewing cocktails, but someone has to do it.)

Professor Plum's Elixir

Have a little drink, of plum elixir!

Our honorary Diner Dad, Stephanie, tried a little something different.

Stephanie opted for Professor Plum’s Elixir, a vibrant concoction of botanical gin infused with fresh, local plums, Antica Torino Bianco, Génépy, plum, and Peychaud’s bitters. Elegant and refreshing, it was the perfect start to her evening.

This cocktail was surprisingly smoky and way less fruity than we would have expected. Definitely one to try and try again! Just enjoy responsibly, obviously.

The Food: Pure Magic

We began our meal with the Seasonal Burrata, and let us tell you—it was a revelation. Imagine roasted and marinated baby beets, pepitas, aged balsamic, jamon serrano, EVOO, and sea salt, all delicately wrapped in prosciutto and served with house-made crostini. It wasn’t just the best burrata we’ve ever had; it was a spiritual experience.

Albondigas

Croquettas

Next up was the Empanada del Día, a house-made pastry stuffed with a luscious mix of ground beef, chorizo, peppers, onions, olives, raisins, garlic, and tomatoes. Served with romesco and salsa criolla, it was spicy, hearty, and deeply satisfying. Our only complaint? It ended too soon.

The Albondigas are lamb meatballs that are expertly cooked in sofrito, topped with salsa criolla, and goat cheese. They are a delightful treat!

Finally, or so we thought, Croquettas. These are basically little fried Manchego cheese and jamon serrano bites. Served with the mysterious yet addictive “Lupo sauce,” these treats had us begging for more.

Kind of a Fig Deal

Paper Mâché

Dessert Cocktails? Why Not!?

Mike's Death by Dawn, their take on an Espresso Martini, was a soul-warming and savory as Steph's cheeks are rosy when she's had a cocktail or two.
Craig’s Kind of a Fig Deal lived up to its cheeky name with fig-infused vodka, kumquat liqueur, honey, ginger hibiscus, red shiso leaf, lemon, prosecco, and a dried fig garnish.
Steph's Paper Mâché featured Diplomatico Mantuano rum, Amaro Nonino, Contratto, and fresh lemon juice—a bold and satisfying choice.

The Grand Finale: Dessert

We ended our culinary journey with Tres Leches Cake, and what a sweet ending it was. Light, luscious, and utterly irresistible, it was love at first bite. The creamy layers melted in our mouths, leaving a dreamy, indulgent sweetness that lingered perfectly. Truly, the ultimate treat to conclude an unforgettable meal!

What’s Next?

We’ve already started planning our next visit. On our radar: the Pork Chop Parmigiano, Gnocchi Tartufo, and Octopus a la Plancha. We also can’t wait to see what their next seasonal surprises have in store for us!

In every sense, Lupo on Arlington exceeded our expectations. From the masterfully crafted cocktails to the inventive, flavor-packed dishes, this is a dining experience we’ll be raving about for a long time. Bravo, Lupo!
